Eye surgeon for Cabo San Lucas: LASIK, cataract and pterygium surgery

Dr. Antonio Serrano operates from his clinic in San José del Cabo, a 30 to 40 minute drive from downtown Cabo San Lucas along the corridor. Residents, expats and visitors staying around the Marina, Médano Beach, Pedregal or the corridor hotels come for the same reasons: a surgeon with over twenty years in Los Cabos who sees you himself before and after surgery.

Getting here from Cabo San Lucas

How an evaluation works

Whether you live in Cabo San Lucas or are visiting, the order is the same: exam first, decision second, and nothing booked until you have a written plan.

1

Book an evaluation

In clinic, or by video if you're still in the U.S. Bring a recent prescription or exam if you have one.

2

Full exam with Dr. Serrano

Topography, corneal thickness, dilated retina check and a conversation about what you want to stop wearing glasses for.

3

A plan and a quote in writing

Which procedure, which lens if any, how many visits, and the price in pesos with the dollar equivalent.

4

Surgery and follow-up

Surgery in San José del Cabo, next-day check with Dr. Serrano, then week and month checks here or coordinated with your optometrist at home.

Procedures

Every page below explains who is a candidate, who isn't, what recovery looks like and what it costs.

Excellent service and solution to my eye irritation problem. Very professional and answers all your questions. This is the second time he's treated me for an eye issue. I highly recommend him!

Had heard good things about Dr. Serrano and wanted to book an appointment for my father. I called there and asked (in Spanish) the woman who answered the phone if she spoke English, as my Spanish is limited. She said "no" and that was the end of the conversation... She was not interested in helping.

My wife and I live on an Island just outside of Vancouver, B.C. and, having owned a small Casa in Palmilla for the past 15 years, are fortunate to be able to spend our Winters in beautiful San Jose del Cabo. Following a Ptergium procedure in Vancouver in late October, my Eye Surgeon delayed our flights to Cabo until early January due to concern over my elevated eye pressure. We visited with Dr Antonio Serrano here in San Jose on February 3rd during which he performed a very complete eye examination and gave me a written report advising that the pressure in both eyes was now at a very respectable "14 mmhg". The whole point of this long winded summary is to say that Dr.Serrano is one of a kind - a World Class Opthamologist, a wonderful human being and an overall "great guy" whom we would HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Muchas gracias - Pedro y Ana.

Frequently asked questions

What everyone asks before deciding

Is there an eye surgeon in Cabo San Lucas itself?

Dr. Serrano's operating clinic is in San José del Cabo, which serves both towns; Los Cabos is one municipality and the drive is 30 to 40 minutes. Patients from Cabo San Lucas make up a large share of the practice.

Can I have LASIK while on holiday in Cabo San Lucas?

Sometimes, if there is time for the exam, the surgery and the next-day check, and you've been evaluated by video beforehand. Plan three to four nights. The Your Trip page explains the timeline.

Do you arrange transport from Cabo San Lucas on surgery day?

You shouldn't drive yourself after surgery. Ask us when booking; we help you plan a taxi or ride for the day of surgery and the next-day check.

Do you treat pterygium? It's everywhere here.

Yes. Sun, wind and dust make it one of the most common reasons residents of Cabo San Lucas come in. Dr. Serrano removes it with a conjunctival graft, which keeps regrowth low.

Are prices in pesos or dollars?

Set in pesos and shown in dollars at the clinic's rate. Cards accepted in either currency. The cost page lists current prices.
